High Commission of India mourns the death of Dr. Yesu Persaud, renowned Guyanese National and Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awardee

 

“Dr. Yesu Persaud, Iconic Leader in Business Innovation” Book Launch

 

Celebrating the 75th Independence Anniversary Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the High Commission participated in an event on 10th September 2021 at the University of Guyana honouring Dr. Yesu Persaud, awardee of the 2006 Pravasi Bharatiya Samman for his outstanding contributions to business and Indian history & culture. Dr Persaud was also bestowed with several international and national awards including the Gandhi Organisation Plaque, the Glory of India Award and Certificate of Excellence by the India International Friendship Society in 2005. Dr. Persaud is a founding member of the Indian Arrival Committee and one of the main people responsible for creating the Monument Garden which marks the arrival of the first batch of Indian indentured labourers to Guyana in 1838. He is also one of the founding members and a life member of the Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO). India is proud of its diaspora, especially respected personalities like Dr Yesu Persaud, who have been the true “Ambassadors” of India abroad. The High Commission continue to collaborate in all such activities to recognize those who have made Guyana proud.


The event witnessed the launch of the book “Dr. Yesu Persaud, Iconic Leader in Business Innovation”, which is the first in the Guyanese Exemplar Series by the University of Guyana. Vice Chancellor Dr. (Prof.) Paloma Mohamed Martin and Deputy Vice Chancellors, Deans, Directors, etc. of the University of Guyana spoke on the occasion. Shri Vijayakumar K, Counsellor of the High Commission presented brief remarks on the outstanding contributions of Dr. Yesu Persaud in business and philanthropy in Guyana and abroad spanning many continents, two centuries and several successful business ventures.
