High Commissioner of India, H.E. Dr. K.J. Srinivasa along with Hon. Nigel Dharamlall, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, recommissioned the Bush Lot Settlement Monument in the Essequibo region. Mr. Devanand Ramdatt, REO of Essequibo region offered opening remarks. Other dignitaries from the Region including the Regional Chairperson, Ms. Vilma Da Silva, also participated and offered brief remarks. The event was attended by invited guests and local residents.

Followed by religious prayers, artists from the Essequibo region presented cultural programmes at the event.

The Bush Lot Settlement Monument is a memorial and tribute to our ancestors.

High Commissioner addressed the gathering and spoke about the rich history of India and the long cherished India-Guyana relationship. He reminded the attendees the need to remember the contributions and resilience of our ancestors who came from India as indentured laborers from 1837-1917. He also conveyed that the High Commission is working to further the intense collaboration between the two countries in various sectors.
