Felicitation ceremony by High Commission of India

India celebrates its 75th Anniversary of Independence in 2022. In the run up to the celebration of this historic occasion, the High Commission of India in Guyana is conducting a series of events to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of India’s independence. As part of this, High Commission organized an online Essay Writing Competition on the topic “My Impressions of India” in March - April for three categories, Middle School level, High School level and College level & above.

 

In total seven winners from all three categories were awarded cash prizes, gifts and certificates by High Commissioner, H.E. Dr K J Srinivasa in a small ceremony organized in the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre on 13 May 2021.

 

During the event, the High Commissioner also felicitated Mr. Bhedesh Persaud, topper of CSEC General 2020 and Mr. Zane Ramoutar, topper of CAPE 2020 with cash prizes and gifts. While addressing those present in the event, High Commissioner conveyed appreciation to all the winners and participants in the Essay Competition for their entries and briefed them on the range of full scholarships offered by the India to Guyanese students for pursuing higher studies in premium institutes/Universities in India and advised all those eligible students to apply for the scholarships before the due date which is 20 May 2021. He exhorted the students to stay steadfast in their goals, serve the family and country with devotion and help the needy.

 

The High Commissioner also spoke about the crucial role played by the Indian diaspora in Guyana, in the economic, political and social development of the country, excelling in all areas. India is very proud of the achievements by the Indo-Guyanese Diaspora and their role in the development of Guyana and looks forward to work closely with the youth of Guyana and improve their skills and capabilities through various scholarship and training programmes.
