Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed a gathering of the Indian diaspora today at the National Centre in Georgetown. The event was attended by President Irfaan Ali, Prime Minister Mark Philips, and other dignitaries. On arrival at the venue, Prime Minister was greeted with exceptional warmth.
2. Prime Minister thanked President Ali for his hospitality and for conferring on him the ‘Order of Excellence’, Guyana’s highest national award. He dedicated the honour to the special bond of friendship between India and Guyana, which he said was built on shared heritage and familial ties. Reflecting on the history of Indo-Guyanese journey, he praised the community’s resilience, cultural richness and its role in shaping Guyana’s destiny.
3. Prime Minister outlined India’s rapid progress and transformation, especially in the fields of technology, infrastructure and sustainability. He highlighted achievements such as financial inclusion, women-led development and inclusive growth. Reflecting on India-Guyana special ties, he underscored that several new agreements have been signed on his historic State visit and these would further strengthen collaboration in areas of food security, defence, energy cooperation and climate change action.
4. Prime Minister extended an invitation to diaspora members to participate in Maha Kumbh and Pravasi Bharatiya Divas to be held in India in January 2025. He called the diaspora "Rashtradoots,” ambassadors of India’s culture and values, and urged them to play a greater role in strengthening ties between the two nations.
